Local linker crash via null pointer write
Published Sep 14, 2026 · Updated Sep 14, 2026
Null pointer dereference in GNU Binutils ld 2.47 allows local users to crash the linker by supplying a crafted input file. The bfd_putl64 routine in bfd/libbfd.c performs a little-endian 64-bit write through a null destination pointer while ld handles the file. Local execution of ld or control over an input consumed by a local build is required, and the documented consequence is termination of that linker process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
