Remote unsafe model deserialization via S3 key
Published Sep 14, 2026 · Updated Sep 14, 2026
Unsafe deserialization in FedML 0.9.0 through 0.9.6 allows remote attackers to process crafted model data through the MQTT+S3 backend. S3Storage.read_model in remote_storage.py retrieves data selected by s3_key_str and deserializes it without establishing that the model content is trusted. Exploitation requires influence over the S3 model object or its key; the public record does not specify the resulting code-execution or data impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
