Authenticated database read and modification via blacklisted orderby
Published May 20, 2026 · Updated May 20, 2026
SQL injection in NextGEN Gallery before 4.2.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary SQL through REST API requests. The data mapper's _clean_column() function applies a character blacklist rather than an allowlist to the orderby parameter, leaving attacker-controlled syntax in the ORDER BY clause. Access requires the NextGEN Gallery overview capability, assigned to Administrators by default, and successful injection permits database reads and writes without a reported direct service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
