JVM termination via unchecked decompression buffer capacity
Published Sep 12, 2026 · Updated Sep 12, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in Xerial snappy-java 1.1.10.8 and earlier allows attackers to terminate the JVM via crafted compressed data. Snappy.uncompress(ByteBuffer, ByteBuffer) passes the caller-provided destination to native decompression without verifying that its capacity can hold the declared decompressed length. A caller must process attacker-controlled, otherwise valid compressed bytes into an undersized destination; the resulting native write crosses the buffer boundary and terminates the hosting JVM.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
