Kernel memory corruption via short firmware TLVs
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Heap buffer overflow in the ath12k Wi-Fi driver in Linux allows attackers to corrupt kernel memory through short firmware TLVs. ath12k_wmi_mac_phy_caps_parse allocates mac_phy_caps with a firmware-clamped element length, but memcpy advances each destination by the full structure size, so later slots exceed the allocation. Compromised or malicious WCN7850 or QCN9274 firmware triggers the write during probe or crash recovery without a Linux account or user interaction, enabling adjacent-object corruption, kernel control-flow hijacking, or a host panic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
