Allocation-state corruption via cross-task token restoration
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Linux 5.8 MD allocation-state corruption allows local users to retain incorrect memory flags via concurrent sysfs writes. The MD suspension paths store a task-specific memalloc_noio_save() token on the shared mddev, allowing another task to restore it and leaving the original task in PF_MEMALLOC_NOIO after returning to userspace. Triggering requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN and concurrent writes to suspend_lo and suspend_hi on an MD array; the published reproducer establishes incorrect allocation state, not a specific hang or crash.
