Unspecified impact via unchecked page allocation
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Allocation failure handling in Linux 5.8.6 and 5.9 through affected stable branches allows attackers to cause unspecified impact. In iommu_dma_alloc, the non-blocking, non-coherent path tests cpu_addr instead of the page returned by dma_alloc_from_pool, then passes a failed page allocation to IOMMU mapping. Reachability requires CONFIG_DMA_DIRECT_REMAP, a non-blocking allocation for a non-coherent device, and allocation failure; the Linux kernel CVE team has not published a resulting impact.
