Kernel crash via uninitialized RAID1 serialization pool
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Linux 7.1.3 md/raid1 initialization failure allows local users to crash the kernel via addition of a RAID1 member device. During bind_rdev_to_array(), mddev_create_serial_pool() skips initializing rdev->serial, which wait_for_serialization() subsequently assumes exists. Triggering requires privileged array modification with serialize_policy set to 1; the reported result is a kernel oops during RAID1 I/O.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
