Firmware hang via incorrect transmit link identifier
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
DoS in the mt7996 driver in Linux 6.19 allows local users to hang Wi-Fi firmware through third-link transmissions. The driver supplies an MLD_ID in transmit descriptors that matches neither the primary nor secondary link, causing a firmware busy loop. The condition requires a third link in power-saving mode and produces MCU command timeouts; the disclosure does not establish a kernel crash or data access.
