Crash via unchecked RX band index
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Unchecked RX indexing in Linux 6.2 mt7996 allows attackers to crash the kernel via invalid wireless receive descriptors. The driver uses the two-bit band_idx directly to index and dereference the three-entry dev->mt76.phys array, allowing out-of-bounds access or a NULL dereference on devices with fewer bands. An active mt7996 device must process an invalid descriptor; public sources do not establish how attackers control this hardware-provided field.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
