Allocation corruption via unlocked WCID reuse
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
A race in the mt7915 driver in Linux 6.12 allows local users to corrupt wireless client allocation during interface removal. mt7915_remove_interface() releases the WCID mask bit without the allocator mutex and before clearing its RCU pointer, permitting duplicate allocation or erasure of a newly published pointer. The disclosed race involves overlapping removal and allocation on dual-band concurrent hardware; no specific crash or information disclosure is documented.
