Service disruption via stale cpufreq notifier
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Notifier cleanup failure in Linux ACPI allows local users to disrupt service via an error during processor driver initialization. In drivers/acpi/processor_driver.c, acpi_processor_driver_init() leaves the cpufreq policy notifier registered when driver_register() or cpuhp_setup_state() fails. The affected path requires prior notifier registration; upstream does not describe how local users force these failures or whether disruption causes a hang or crash.
