Kernel memory compromise via failed-probe report race
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux HID core allows physically proximate attackers to read or write kernel memory through malicious Bluetooth reports. During a failed probe, __hid_device_probe() frees hidraw resources and clears hdev->driver without first excluding report callbacks already running after hid_device_io_start(). A paired Bluetooth HID peripheral can drive both the probe failure and concurrent reports, causing arbitrary kernel reads, writes, or a panic.
