Kernel crash via premature iSER command handling
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
A race condition in Linux allows remote attackers to crash the kernel by sending a SCSI command immediately after iSER login. isert_put_login_tx() sends the final Login Response before __transport_register_session() initializes se_session.se_tpg, so the first command reaches target_submit() with a null target portal group. Exposure requires an enabled Linux iSER target and an initiator that submits a command without waiting; the null dereference oopses the ib-comp-wq worker and interrupts host service.
