Local privilege escalation via stale expectation links
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Memory corruption in Linux kernel netfilter nft_ct from 5.3 through 7.2.5 allows local users to gain kernel privileges via custom expectations. The nft_ct expectation path inserts an expectation before conntrack extension reallocation, leaving its .pprev link attached to the wrong hlist_head and enabling stale-list memory corruption. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and custom connection-tracking expectation processing; successful abuse compromises kernel confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
