Memory corruption via undersized socket-option buffers
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Buffer overflow in Linux NFC LLCP sockets allows local users to overwrite adjacent user-space memory via short getsockopt buffers. In net/nfc/llcp_sock.c, nfc_llcp_getsockopt() writes four bytes through put_user() regardless of optlen; its length clamp changes only the reported size. Reachability requires access to an NFC LLCP socket and the affected handler; the documented consequence is corruption of the calling process's buffer, not demonstrated kernel-memory corruption or privilege escalation.
