Invalid memory access via request-buffer completion race
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux PN533 NFC driver allows local users to trigger invalid kernel memory access via an I2C completion race. After __pn533_send_async() publishes a command, completion frees its request buffer while pn533_i2c_send_frame() still dereferences it without holding a temporary reference. Reachability requires an active PN533 I2C transport and overlapping completion; the upstream disclosure establishes neither a specific crash outcome nor privilege escalation.
