Kernel memory corruption via wrapped NTFS VCN validation
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Memory corruption in affected Linux kernels allows local users to compromise the kernel by mounting a crafted NTFS volume. In mi_enum_attr(), an evcn value near U64_MAX makes evcn + 1 a meaningless near-wrap bound, allowing an out-of-range non-resident attribute to pass validation. A victim with mount privileges must mount the supplied volume; later run-tree operations can read past an allocation, corrupt MFT metadata, or crash the kernel.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
