Resource leak via incomplete ACPI registration rollback
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Resource leakage in Linux Kernel 3.14 ACPI scanning allows local users to consume bus IDs through failed device registration. The device_add() rollback in drivers/acpi/scan.c leaves acpi_bus_id_list entries and allocated instance IDs behind after acpi_device_set_name(), rather than releasing them. Triggering requires device_add() to fail after allocation; public sources do not describe an attacker-controlled trigger or a resulting hang, crash, or reboot.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
