Out-of-bounds access via unlocked configfs attribute stores
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
A race in Linux null_blk allows local users to trigger out-of-bounds kernel access via concurrent configfs attribute writes. NULLB_DEVICE_ATTR stores update fields without a shared lock, allowing zone_nr_conv to exceed its validated limit during power_store device setup and index beyond dev->zones[]. Access requires write permission to null_blk configfs attributes and concurrent stores through separate file descriptors; queue reconfiguration also leaves inconsistent state.
