Denial of service via uncleared cgroup congestion
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
DoS in Linux blk-iocost allows local users to degrade cgroup I/O and memory allocation through stale congestion state. In block/blk-iocost.c, ioc_pd_free() removes policy data and cancels its timer without clearing an outstanding delay, leaving no path to reset congestion. The condition requires accumulated I/O debt followed by policy teardown; affected cgroups and descendants retain reduced readahead and allocation throttling for the cgroup's lifetime.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
