Service crash via unchecked share-name allocation
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
NULL dereference in Linux ksmbd allows remote authenticated users to crash SMB processing through share connections after allocation failure. In ksmbd_share_config_get(), a failed kstrdup() leaves share->name NULL for named-pipe shares, but ksmbd_ipc_tree_connect_request() still passes it to strlen(). Exploitation requires an enabled ksmbd server and the allocation failure; the documented consequence is a kernel fault interrupting service, not demonstrated data disclosure or code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
