Kernel warning via unchecked negative getsockopt length
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Input validation in Linux cgroup getsockopt allows local users to trigger a hardened usercopy warning via a negative BPF option length. The __cgroup_bpf_run_filter_getsockopt_kern() function checks only the upper bound, allowing a negative ctx->optlen to reach copy_to_sockptr() as an unsigned size through TCP_ZEROCOPY_RECEIVE. Triggering requires control of a cgroup getsockopt BPF program; the upstream disclosure establishes a warning, not arbitrary code execution or a demonstrated system crash.
