Out-of-bounds read via unchecked ACPI index
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the Linux hp-bioscfg password parser allows attackers to access invalid memory through a malformed ACPI package. The PSWD_ENCODINGS loop reads password_obj[elem + pos_values] without confirming that the computed index remains below password_obj_count, then passes the invalid string pointer and length to hp_convert_hexstr_to_str(). Exposure requires the HP BIOS configuration driver to parse malformed firmware-supplied data and can disclose kernel data or interrupt the system.
