Kernel fault via invalid worker-pointer cleanup
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Invalid-pointer dereference in Linux 6.4 vdpa_sim allows local users to trigger a kernel fault during failed simulator initialization. When kthread_run_worker() fails, vdpasim_create() retains its ERR_PTR result and vdpasim_free() passes it to kthread_destroy_worker() during device release. Reachability requires simulator creation and worker-creation failure; the resulting general protection fault interrupts kernel execution, but attacker control over that failure is not established.
