Resource leakage via incorrect error-path cleanup
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Resource leakage in Linux mlx5 vDPA allows local users to retain memory allocations through failed memory-region setup. In add_direct_chain(), err_alloc cleanup iterates mr->head instead of tmp, leaving newly allocated direct memory-region entries unfreed. Exposure requires mlx5 vDPA use and an allocation failure; the published description does not establish a crash or a reliable attacker-controlled trigger.
