Kernel memory corruption via NTFS decompression overflow
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in Linux 7.1 through 7.2.5 allows local users to corrupt kernel memory by reading crafted compressed NTFS data. The ntfs_decompress() range check permits dp_addr to equal dp_sb_end, so the following symbol copy writes beyond the destination page and leaves the output offset invalid. Exploitation requires the vulnerable NTFS driver to read a corrupted compressed $DATA attribute; the disclosed effect is a bounded series of writes beyond one page.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
