Out-of-bounds reads via unchecked firmware section extents
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Out-of-bounds reads in Linux's qlcnic driver allow local users to read beyond firmware buffers via malformed firmware images. The ROM parser computes section ends with unchecked arithmetic, while its consumers assume a fixed bootloader length, a 17-byte version tail, and complete eight-byte words. Exposure requires attacker-controlled firmware to reach driver validation or loading; the upstream disclosure does not establish an attacker-visible memory leak or a specific crash outcome.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
