Memory leakage via overwritten link-control queue entry
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Memory leakage in net/smc in Linux kernel 5.16 allows attackers to consume kernel memory via SMC link-control messages. The smc_llc_event_handler() function overwrites a stashed flow->qentry without freeing it when REQ_ADD_LINK transitions to ADD_LINK. Triggering requires CONFIRM_LINK or ADD_LINK_CONT followed by ADD_LINK during that flow state; each transition loses one allocation, and the upstream notice does not establish a specific crash or hang.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
