Data inconsistency via stale append-offset cache invalidation
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Data inconsistency in Linux FUSE 7.2 allows local users to read stale data via append-mode direct writes racing with buffered reads. In fs/fuse/file.c, fuse_direct_write_iter() saves the supplied offset before generic_write_checks() moves it to EOF, then invalidates the saved range rather than the appended range. Access to an affected FUSE file, a non-page-aligned file size, and concurrent buffered reads are required for stale tail-page data to remain visible after the write.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
