Sender hang via unordered congestion wakeup checks
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
A race in Linux RDS congestion handling allows local users to hang senders via missed wakeups during concurrent congestion updates. In net/rds/cong.c, rds_cong_map_updated() checks wait queues without ordering preceding congestion-map and generation writes, allowing an updater and waiter to miss each other's changes. RDS use and a concurrent congestion update are required; a blocked sender remains asleep until another peer update or a signal, and poll waiters also miss notifications.
