Kernel hang via unchecked scheduling quantum overflow
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Integer overflow in Linux fq_pie allows local users to cause a kernel soft lockup via an oversized network-device MTU. In net/sched/sch_fq_pie.c, fq_pie_init() copies the MTU-derived scheduling quantum without clamping, overflowing the signed flow deficit and trapping fq_pie_qdisc_dequeue() in an infinite loop. Exploitation requires CAP_NET_ADMIN in a user namespace and a device accepting an MTU that reaches the sign bit after header adjustment; the documented consequence is a hang, not data disclosure or privilege escalation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
