TCP segment-count corruption via unchecked offload size
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Integer overflow in Linux virtio header handling allows local users to corrupt TCP segment counts via crafted packet headers. The __virtio_net_hdr_to_skb function accepts TCP gso_size values below eight, allowing partial GSO division of the socket-buffer length to overflow the 16-bit gso_segs field. The disclosed AF_PACKET PACKET_VNET_HDR trigger requires CAP_NET_RAW in the governing user namespace; the upstream disclosure does not specify the downstream failure mode or establish code execution.
