Kernel crash via SLIP teardown race
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel allows local users to crash the kernel by racing SLIP input processing against a TTY hangup. slip_hangup calls slip_close while only a read lock is held, freeing the network device and private slip structure as slip_receive_buf reads them. Reaching the flaw requires local access to exercise the SLIP line discipline and trigger concurrent receive and hangup processing.
