Denial of service via unchecked scheduler quantum
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Denial of service in Linux 7.3-rc1's fq scheduler allows local users to hang packet scheduling via crafted tc qdisc changes. In net/sched/sch_fq.c, fq_change() accepts a quantum of 1, bypassing fq_init() limits and restoring a small-quantum deficit spin. Reachability requires CONFIG_NET_SCH_FQ=y and CAP_NET_ADMIN, which can be namespace-local through unprivileged user namespaces; the documented consequence is scheduling spin, not data access or code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
