CVE-2026-90048

Kernel heap corruption via undersized attribute-list buffer

Published Sep 16, 2026 · Updated Sep 16, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in Linux kernel 5.15 and affected Git revisions allows local users to corrupt kernel heap memory via a crafted NTFS image. ni_create_attr_list allocates one record-sized attribute-list buffer, then expands every on-disk attribute into a larger list entry without checking the write cursor against the allocation. Reachability requires a loop-mounted image and an extended-attribute update; published evidence demonstrates an out-of-bounds write but not code execution.
