Kernel crash via stale controller list node
Published Sep 16, 2026 · Updated Sep 16, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux 4.10 and affected later revisions allows attackers to crash the kernel after HID input registration fails. The hid-sony sony_input_configured() path links a controller into sony_device_list before registration completes, while sony_probe() frees sony_sc on failure without removing that node. A later matching Sony controller traverses the freed node; reaching this state requires compatible controller hardware and a failed input registration, and no broader impact is established.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
