Kernel crash via unlocked Ceph authorization traversal
Published Sep 16, 2026 · Updated Sep 16, 2026
A use-after-free in the Linux kernel CephFS client allows attackers to crash the kernel through concurrent MDS session reopen handling. ceph_mds_check_access() traverses mdsc->s_cap_auths without mdsc->mutex while OPEN handling can replace and free that array and its strings. Triggering requires CephFS client activity during a concurrent MDS session reopen; the observed consequence is a kernel Oops and service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
