Kernel memory corruption via unbounded serial message assembly
Published Sep 16, 2026 · Updated Sep 16, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in the Linux Extron CEC driver 6.12 allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt kernel memory via serial input. The receive path appends incoming bytes to the fixed-size cec_msg.msg array without rejecting an overlong malformed message. Reachability requires a configured Extron DA HD 4K PLUS adapter to deliver malformed serial data; the overwrite can corrupt adjacent kernel state and interrupt the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
