Kernel out-of-bounds read via undersized firmware blob
Published Sep 16, 2026 · Updated Sep 16, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the Linux s2255 USB media driver allows attackers to access invalid kernel memory through firmware under eight bytes. The s2255_probe() function subtracts eight from the unchecked blob length before reading the trailing marker and version, so a short length underflows the index. Reachability requires the driver to probe supported USB hardware and load an undersized firmware file; no data disclosure or code execution is reported.
