CVE-2026-89839Hinoki check available

Unauthorized xattr changes via unmapped owner check

Published Sep 16, 2026 · Updated Sep 16, 2026

Improper authorization in the F2FS xattr handler in Linux 6.3 allows local users to change system.advise on idmapped mounts. f2fs_xattr_advise_set() passes nop_mnt_idmap to inode_owner_or_capable(), comparing the caller's fsuid with the unmapped on-disk owner instead of the mapped owner. An idmapped F2FS mount is required; the error can deny the mapped owner or let an unrelated local user alter the file's advice flags.
