CVE-2026-89792

Out-of-bounds reads via malformed share configurations

Published Sep 16, 2026 · Updated Sep 16, 2026

Out-of-bounds reads in Linux ksmbd allow attackers to access memory past share-configuration IPC payloads through malformed responses. The transport and share-config parsers consumed variable-length fields without first validating the payload size, parsed veto lists without an effective bound, and omitted the separator byte when calculating the path length. Exploitation requires the ksmbd share-configuration response path; public material does not establish an externally visible consequence or whether a remote SMB client can create the malformed response.
