Kernel fault via trailing-byte buffer overread
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the Linux Altera CvP FPGA manager allows attackers to fault the kernel during FPGA image transfer. In altera_cvp_send_block(), the trailing-byte path dereferences a 32-bit pointer when only one to three valid bytes remain, crossing a page or scatterlist boundary. The path requires an enabled Altera CvP device and an image buffer whose final bytes end at such a boundary; the bounded consequence is a kernel fault.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
