Kernel memory corruption via unchecked dentry length
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in the Linux CephFS NFS export path allows a malicious or compromised Ceph MDS to corrupt client kernel memory. ceph_get_name() and __get_snap_name() copy MDS-controlled names into NAME_MAX-sized buffers and append a terminator without first bounding the supplied lengths. Reachability requires a CephFS mount to be re-exported over NFS; the demonstrated consequence is a slab out-of-bounds write.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
