Use-after-free via dangling DFS target hint
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel SMB client allows attackers to cause unspecified impact via DFS target-cache operations. free_tgts() frees every cache_dfs_tgt entry in ce->tlist but leaves ce->tgthint pointing to a freed entry, which later code can dereference. The path requires the DFS target cache to be freed and the stale hint to be used later; kernel.org has not published a concrete consequence.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
