Out-of-bounds kernel read via short SMB response
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the Linux SMB client before 7.2.4 allows remote attackers to trigger an invalid kernel memory read via a short response. reparse_buf_ptr() reads ReparseDataLength at offsets 4–5 before confirming that OutputCount covers the eight-byte fixed reparse header. Remote attackers must control the SMB server response and return fewer than six bytes; public evidence establishes the invalid read but no data disclosure or reliable service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
