Kernel memory corruption via unchecked journal run length
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in Linux kernel ntfs3 journal replay allows attackers to corrupt kernel memory via a crafted NTFS log record. The copy_lcns and redo-shortening loops index page_lcns at j + i while trusting the record’s lcns_follow count without checking the target entry’s capacity. Triggering requires replay of an attacker-controlled NTFS journal; published evidence establishes an out-of-bounds write but no narrower crash-only or code-execution outcome.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
