Out-of-bounds access via signed MFT LCN parsing
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds access in the NTFS driver in Linux allows attackers to trigger invalid memory access via a crafted NTFS boot sector. parse_ntfs_boot_sector() stores unsigned 64-bit MFT and MFTMirr cluster numbers in a signed value, letting a high-bit value become negative and bypass the upper-bound check. The crafted boot sector must be parsed as an NTFS volume; the invalid location can reach the MFT zone allocator and access lcn_empty_bits_per_page out of bounds, while no further consequence is stated.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
