Kernel memory corruption via unchecked NTFS offsets
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in the Linux kernel NTFS driver before 7.2.4 allows attackers to corrupt kernel memory via a malicious MFT record. ntfs_attr_update_meta() shifts the attribute name and inserts an eight-byte compressed_size field without validating name_offset, available space, or overlap with mapping pairs. Reaching the write requires processing an attacker-controlled MFT record during sparse-attribute conversion; the disclosed consequence is bounded to kernel-memory corruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
