CVE-2026-89608

Out-of-bounds read via overstated packet bounds

Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in Linux eCryptfs file-header parsing allows attackers to read past a packet buffer via crafted version 1 headers. ecryptfs_parse_packet_set calculates each remaining packet limit from PAGE_SIZE minus eight instead of the caller's actual packet-set length. The flaw is reached only when the kernel parses a malformed eCryptfs version 1 file header; the upstream record publishes no consequence beyond the out-of-bounds read.
